Cinnamon Rolls (Grandma's recipe)

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2 Tbsp yeast
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 4 cups hot water
  • 11 cups flour + more
  • Cinnamon sugar
  • Melted butter

DIRECTIONS

In a large bowl, mix together the sugar and shortening.
Add the yeast and salt and mix.
Add the hot water and mix.
Add 8 cups of flour and mix well, then add the rest of the flour and mix. Keep adding flour a little bit at a time until the dough is a balloon that isn’t blown up all the way. It should be a little bit sticky.
Knead it for a few minutes, then roll it out into a rectangle that’s about 1/4 inch thick.
Spread with melted butter followed by the cinnamon sugar.
Roll the dough, then cut into 1/2 inch slices. Place on a cookie sheet about 1 inch apart and let them rise until they are touching each other.
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
Frost with a white or cream cheese frosting and serve.
